This lightweight French forearm crutch starts out as good basic adjustable crutch designed for the short-term user market. We modify them to meet the needs of growing kids who will use crutches for many years. My crutch design philosophy is to eliminate as much of the negative ground impact forces possible as they are the main cause of future joint fatigue problems. I only wish that I figured this out when I was a kid and was able to protect my upper body for the long haul. We start by installing a pair of my highly wet-slip-resistant Tornado Rain Tips with the shock-absorbing gel polymer inside for protection against slipping on wet surfaces and "overuse syndrome." We then add a pair of my vinyl-clad handgrips with shock absorbing Poron urethane foam inside. These spread the load on small hands over a larger surface area for more comfort and protection. They are also easy to wipe clean. This is a good habit for the sake of better hygiene. I wipe my grips clean every time I wash my hands and I have noticeably fewer colds. Next we custom size the cuff using a heat gun to open-up the jaws of the WalkEasy cuff so a small arm is able to escape easily when a fall occurs. We then sand the cuff smooth so it doesn't scratch and install one of my Padded Leather Cuff Inserts that cradle the arm in comfort while absorbing shock and perspiration. The inserts are held in with Velcro and can be easily removed in cold weather so there is a lot more room inside the cuff to accommodate a bulky winter coat. The final modification we made is to the adjustment mechanism. We enlarge one hole on the top and one on the bottom and install our unique Jam Nut Locking System. This will lock all the crutch tubes tightly together to eliminate movement that weakens crutches over time and causes annoying clicking noises. Our locking system can be easily removed and replaced with a screwdriver and pliers when it comes time to extend the crutch for a growing child. When you order we need you to measure the distance around the child's forearm at its biggest circumference and give that to us along with the "X" and "Y" measurement so we can set the crutches to your child's correct height. You have many colors to choose from: Blue, Burgundy, Forrest Green, Black, Neon Green, Neon Pink, Pastel Pink, Red, Teal, Purple, or White. |
